What creative commons license in particular did you choose (there are quite a few of them, not not all are acceptable on Wikipedia)? When you upload an image on top of an existing one it doesn't update the content of the description page (a common cause of problems) so you you'll have to manually add the appropriate "copyright tag" template to it. Thanks. --Sherool (talk) 15:07, 20 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

File Copyright problem
File Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading File:Ellis,_Timothy_William.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Chris G Bot (talk) 00:18, 21 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I've expanded the article you started a bit. If you have any local news reports on their activities as councillors that'd be good to give the article some more content. Fences&Windows 22:55, 8 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Financial Director (magazine) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person, organization (band, club, company, etc.) or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. jsfouche ☽☾ talk 13:19, 24 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference

[edit]

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being 'minor'. The only thing that's changed is that you will no longer have them marked as minor by default.

For established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. If you are familiar with the contents of WP:MINOR, and believe that it is still beneficial to the encyclopedia to have all your edits marked as such by default, then this discussion will give you the details you need to continue with this functionality indefinitely. If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 18:24, 14 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Your application for AWB

[edit]

Hello GrahamSmith. Please see my comment at Wikipedia talk:AutoWikiBrowser/CheckPage#Users. I'm requesting that you change your usage of the minor edit flag to conform with the advice. Per the help page: "Examples include typographical corrections, formatting and presentational changes, and rearrangements of text without modification of its content." Adding any new content, or making any change to content, should not be marked as minor. Thank you, EdJohnston (talk) 17:08, 20 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Good point, and thank you for drawing it to my attention. I had been associating "minor" with "non-contentious" and hadn't properly read When to mark an edit as a minor edit and When not to mark an edit as a minor edit.—GrahamSmith (talk) 17:23, 20 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I have added you to the list of AWB users. EdJohnston (talk) 19:08, 20 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Congratulations, GrahamSmith, you've recently completed your 1,000th edit to articles on English Wikipedia!

Thank you for all your contributions, and for helping to improve and expand the encyclopedia. Keep up the great work! Maryana (WMF) (talk) 22:24, 12 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Douglas Johnson (theologian) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a clear copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Gsingh (talk) 04:27, 15 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I see that this was restored and moved to User:GrahamSmith/Douglas Johnson (theologian), where you expanded it. Is it ready to be moved back into article space? Let me know if you need admin/other help. – Fayenatic London 13:26, 7 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for asking. I have recently acquired a copy of Douglas Johnson's book "Contending for the Faith"; also a copy of the obituary published in the Independent. I therefore expect to be updating User:GrahamSmith/Douglas Johnson (theologian) and asking for it to go through the AfC process in the next few weeks. — GrahamSmith (talk) 13:52, 27 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Graham
I noticed your comment on the talk page here (after your reversion of 84.45.222.192's deletion) I don't disagree that much with the sentiment, but the issue for me is the disruption/edit-warring/trolling that 84 is persisting with. If he wants to raise that point in a cogent manner, we can address it. But I for one am not in favour of rewarding the dummy-spitting that we've seen so far. As it is, he's one click away from a 3RR block; maybe he'll learn something from that. What do you think? Moonraker12 (talk) 17:02, 23 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your note: if it's any consolation, I do know "it's only a steak" (having just watched "The man who shot Liberty Valance" again, I get the feeling I’m John Wayne to your James Stewart, here). I'll be out of town for a few days, but I hope your appeal to reason elicits a reasonable response. I'll catch up later... Moonraker12 (talk) 09:23, 24 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Howdy Pilgrim! (I have returned!)
I see the latest contributions by our mutual acquaintance haven’t displayed any of the reasonableness hoped for (and I'm mortified he's giving you the flak, when it's me that's mostly giving him the grief). Anyway, I’ve decided to take it to AN/I (see here); the good cop/bad cop approach was worth a try, maybe bad cop/worse cop will have some effect. Keep yer chin up...Moonraker12 (talk) 17:09, 29 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
(this is weird: I thought I'd reverted the deletion, between editing my talk page and posting the AN/I, but the page history says you did it. Did it come up as an edit conflict for you? I can't find my edit anywhere...Moonraker12 (talk) 17:21, 29 May 2012 (UTC))[reply]
Thanks for the note! I've no idea what happened there; I think I'd better lie down for a bit! There's been a response to the AN/I; we'll see if it achieves anything... Moonraker12 (talk) 17:35, 29 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Graham,
I have again undone the reference to a crime from years ago that really has no relevance AT ALL to the school becoming a comprehensive in 1980. FFS! If you go to the page for any school on wikipedia, you will not find, generally speaking, references to crimes committed by pupils at the school they attended!!! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.45.222.192 (talk) 15:17, 8 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Europe 10,000 Challenge invite

[edit]

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any country sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 08:56, 6 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Leeds Wikipedia meetup on Saturday 4th May

[edit]

Hello there! Interested in having a chat with fellow Wikipedians? There's a meetup in Leeds on Saturday 4th May 2024, at the Tiled Hall Café at Leeds Central Library.

Full details here.

You're receiving this one-off message as you're either a member of WikiProject Yorkshire, you've expressed an interest in a previous Leeds meetup years ago, or (for about 4 of you), we've met :)

I plan to organise more in future, so if you'd like to be notified next time, please say so over on the meetup page.

Please also invite any Wikimedia people you know (or have had wiki dealings with) – spread the word! Hope to see you there.
